I bought one of these and it arrived last night.  It works well but I am going to have to invest in a split screen focussing glass.

I've been after one of these for a while so I could use my 500mm mirror lens for astronomy and solar eclipses.  I took some sample shots of the moon last night and EVERY one was OOF!

And it is very disconcerting not to see and aperture come up in the window!  It is a fixed f8 lens anyway, so it doesn't matter at all, still, offputting.

Well ,t he first shots I took with it were all soft - my fault, I was in too much of a hurry.  And I've always had trouble focussing that lens, it's my eyes.  So I have bought a split image glass for the 300D but have not eyt screqwed up mu courage enough to fit it.  Maybe later today - I am going out for a few hours to VIntage Lakes wetlands area for an explore and maybe take some photos.

I've just cleaned all the cameras, sensors, lens and camera gold spots (very carefully) charged all teh batteries (4), formatted all the cards - I'm hot to trot!

How did you go today? I have an FD-EOS adapter as well that I bought specifically to use with my 400mm f5.6. While it works a treat with the 300D, it's not so forgiving with the 40D. Sad

I haven't changed the focussing screen yet, Helen, I'm shamed to admit!  Paertly because I keep meaning tobuy some pointy tweezers, and partly because in our dusty old house with 4 cats it's hard to find a relativly dust free spot to do it.

I'll post back here when I have, thanks for prodding me, I'll chase the tweezers today.
