Something I should have done already was to set up a Facebook group to increase awareness of our little forum.
'Wintermute' raised the topic today and as a result, I have set up a basic Light Art photography forum group at:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=37433033192

I know quite a few of you have profiles at Facebook, so if you feel inclined join the group and help spread the word.

It's just another tangent that might help attract a few more like-minded folk.

I can't promise to join Facebook but I'll take a close look at it...My niece talked me into that MySpace thing because she wants me to find a nice lady and now my email is full of "invitations" from all sorts of lonely heart clubs...They all go straight to the spam file now but it was annoying for a while...I still get the occasional "friend invite" from some lady who wants to show me her nekkid pictures if I'll give her my credit card number...I got enough trouble without that... Wink...Ben

Ben, you'll be beating them off with a stick at the front gate!.

Please, nobody join on account of this mention. There is zero, nada affiliation and very happy to keep you all here in this nice cosy environment.
I need to try a few different things along the way, to increase visibility.
I have been running some Google adwords, but some looney has made a typo in the bidding (bless his little credit card)...The minimum bid on "Photography Forums" as a search keyword is currently USD$13.00 !!! as the bid per click was previously between 0.85 and 1.30 something is wrong. Too much for me! I can see someone's account wizzing around out there for a minute.

How about putting ads on Gumtree and other ad sites, or would that not be reaching your target audience?

I have been working Gumtree pretty hard, to the point of "Too many postings today" notices. Some of the current members came via the UK sites.
They are pretty good, but the listing slides down to page 3 or 4 pretty quickly.
I guess I need to peddle faster!

A few members per week would be good to add add new ideas, variety of location etc.
I am very lucky to have attracted such a nice bunch of people so far.
Except maybe for 'Ross' of course, but he is both not here at the moment to defend himself and his other half Cher, makes up for many of his deficiencies  Grin OOer, That will get back!!

To all our memeber, I've added the web address to all my signatures where other forums allow it.  I know we have one member at least who followed the link.  So perhaps others could do this too?  We need a few more members but we don't want to get swamped.  I like it here, and this is now my most visited Photo Forum by far, because I 'know' most of the posters.

Thank you Odille, I am flattered. Shucks! It is very nice to recognise most of the names each day...and i look forwad to check to see if we have any new members each day.
Even now at 12.10am I was OTB and thought I had better pay a quick visit.

I am afraid I hve been a bit slack as admin the last week or two, trying to do a bit on the side project site and real work - you know, the one that almost pays the bills  Smiley

Hmm - a technologically savvy admin dude that doesn't know about or chooses to ignore the existance of wirelss hotspots at most camp sites!! Luckily I have a very thick skin, a wonderful other half and about 10,000 happy snaps to post on return! Assume the brace position Admin Dude!!!!

No, you DO NOT want to come to grips with Facebook.  It is a sharing site for 'friends' but the troubel is once you hve given it your details and it want them ALL - ie your Date of Birth if you want to add a friend, every time) and has enormous privacy issues.  Don't touch it.

There was an extensive article in teh Sydney Morning Herald Tech section a few months ago.  They sell your details to all and sundry, and if you ask them to remove your profile, or go in and do it yourelf, it only removes the public bit you can see, to truly remove yourself you have to go to every area of the site and do it manually and the odds you'll get it all are miniscule.  That eans every person who's got you as a friend - you must go to their page and remove yourself, plus to any area you've expressed any interest in etc.

People have had big issues with it coming back to 'bite them on the bum'.  If I'd known all this I don't think I would even have made myself a MYSpace page, but it's done.  I use it very little and only have one friend, but I'm not bothered.  (And I do't even know the guy, must be someone who goes round signign himself up t all teh new members.)

Would that be "Tom"?...If so, he owns MySpace and he's really hard to get rid of...Ben

That's weird, I've never had facebook asking for my date of birth, it was an option question but I didn't answer it.  And it's never asked me again  Huh?

The way to go with facebook is to not add all the stupid extra "applications" that do pointless things like ZOMBIE GAME or SUPER-POKE and all that.  All I've got on my profile is the basic stuff and the photo application.  I like it because it pings up a message when I put new pictures into my flickr account.

To each their own I guess

Well even I have finally bitten the bullet and joined Facebook (to keep in touch with a particular friend who had issues and resigned from another forum) but I'm keeping my friends list very low. I will have a look at the site now.

I have a few family members and some reletives as friends and only a couple of close
family friends as friend on facebook. Whenever I get sent something I mostly just ignore or delete it.
I have a few photos and a link to my Flickr and Redbubble sites.

Well I guess I just put my last photo on there. What about links, can you link to a site like Redbubble, Flickr or Light Art with out them being able to use your images.

Sounds like bad medicine. I haven't posted images there and wouldn't have anyway. BUT did have about a dozen lost friends from the dim past friend me, which in itself is not a bad thing.

The new terms and conditions are getting revised on facebook because of a lot of complaints.
Have a look here- http://blog.facebook.com/ .
There is also a group ran by Facebook staff where you can have your say about the terms of use and
any thoughts you may have.- http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=69048030774 .
The new terms have been reverted back to the old terms that were in place before Feb 4. (for now)
