Hi
I've not been on the 'net much recently - very busy with work, so although I've been taking the camera out I've not had time to repost the photos here and look at discussion much.
One of the things I've been working on whilst "away" is looking into starting a new photo club in Glasgow - we've been meeting in a bar just off Glasgow Green so far. It would be really great if anyone who knows people round that area could drop in - we've got maybe 4-7 people so far so the more the merrier.
-Robert

Good luck with the club. I volunteer at the local Nieghbourhood house in the town where I live and am looking into doing something similar. Maybe just a Photographic group to support and help each other and have day trips and things like B-B-Qs.

Yeah, that's the aim I had in mind with this - not so much a "camera club" in the traditional sense - I was put off from a lot of the current ones, the average age seems to be 50+ and the focus tends to be more on who has the most obscure kit rather than going and doing - plus they all shut for the summer (what's up with that??)
I'm thinking more like meeting once a month or maybe once a fortnight, with maybe a couple of wee trips in between at other places, maybe even organise a weekend away on a photo-safari camp somewhere in the highlands or something to give people a chance to get their cameras out and chat to people about photography rather than obsess over cameras. My philosophy with photography has always been the camera is basically the least important part - a good subject, good lighting and a good eye are all way more influential to the final image (that's just my opinion though!)

I agree. Something that is simple and keep it that way seems the way to go. I am only in a small town so it is a bit harder to find people that are willing to get together as a group and have some fun. Another person in my town tried it a couple of years back and done ok, but after about 6 months most people lost interest and stopped going to the group meetings. Casual days out with the group taking photo's and just relaxing with like minded people is a great way to learn and improve.

I'm not a million miles from Glasgow ( Darvel ) and although I'm a member of a photography club in my old town of Lesmahagow, I'm always open to new things. Where are you planning on meeting full time?

We're still meeting up in West bar at the moment (the beer in there is excellent, well worth a visit BTW.) I think this week we should have a couple of extra people, then we'll move over to our less-regular schedule - if it's not too far to come it would be great to get some extra people. So far I'm the "most experienced" in the group and I'm not exactly david bailey so I'm hoping to attract a wide mix of skills if possible, otherwise I'll start to feel like a schoolteacher

So, how is your club going, Robert? We haven't seen much of you here lately.

Time is like a freeway of infinite lanes, all leading from the past to the future. A driver in lane A may crash, while a driver in lane B survives, it follows that by changing lanes one may be able to predict the future.
