My modem (less than 2 years old) has carked it and I just cannot afford one for a bit.  Using the local Maccas at the moment!  Will report back somewhat spasmodically for a bit.

I dont know what type of internet access you have but I have a spare - "Scientific Atlanta VoIP cable modem" sitting here with all the necessary cables and install disks ... I THINK but not 100% sure you can use it with any cable internet access and not only with Optus who we are with. Its some super high speed, gee whizz, you bueat modem and I get some stupid speed download with it. It connects to the computer via USB or Ethernet so you have options.
They sent it out when we moved house for no good reason and realistically we cant use 2 cable modems ... so if you want it then its yours (unless mine dies )

I'm back with a borrowed modem from Warwick's work - I can have it for a couple of weeks.  We were lucky this happened at the same time as some emergencies re staffing at his work so he needs to be able to access the work site from home.
