I'm finally going to Albury (nsw) to order and pay a deposit on my new camera tomorrow. 18/7/08.
Pentax K20D and hopefully a Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 macro lens.
Won't be until the end of next week when I pick it up though.
Hopefully it will be as good as they say it is.

An armed Ozzi is a dangerous Ozzi! (Unless like Cher thinks - you are pink and fluffy like the ostrich!!!)  Looking forward to some great shots

This can be a very dangerous move leading to spenditis (sometimes called Pentaxitis), a serious condition afflicting photographers and particularly exacerbated by attandance at camera shops

I hope I'm never cured of Hasselbladitis or Nikonitis (or holgania or my filmist tendencies).

I love getting new toys...er "tools" and playing...er "learning to work" with them. Have a great time with the Pentax.

Yes, there is nothing like getting the box and extracting the goodies.  I don't want to be cured either, and would happily succumb to Leicaitis and other varietes if I had the money for 'treatment'!

Thanks. I pick it up tomorrow. I will be there first thing in the morning. Means I have to get up early as it
is around about 140km to Albury, where the camera house store is. Then I have to wait till I get back home
(another 140) to charge bat and start to work out how it works. It ended up costing $1850 with
camera, lens, and 4gb Sandisk Extreme Ducati SD card. Could have got it cheaper online or from Melbourne
but I would rather spend a bit more and get it local. Now I need to start saving for another
Battery, SD card, lens and this and that and one of these or mabee 2 and and and and !!!!!!!

If it was christmas it would be a good one. Anxious is about right for me to, I'm even having trouble
sleeping at night. Lots of snow on the mountains not far from town so I can't wait to try it out.
 I'M EXCITED.

As a northerner, it's a bit odd to think of snow in July, unless the mountains are higher than 3000 meters.

They are not very high mountains but they get lots of snow some years.  Tasmania has had snow down to 300m this week and the state was cut in half.  There are some good pics on the Hobart Mercury newspaper site.

And here is a link to Thredbo so yopu can see some (for you) summer snow!

I got new camera and had a play with it. Battery was already charged so I didn't have to wait to long
to try it out. The computer with the net at home got some sort of virus so is out of order, so I can only use net at neighbourhood house on tues, wed & thurs. Now I need to add some extra ram to my laptop to
make it better for RAW DNG images as it is a bit slow with the 14.6mp, 23mb files.

Thanks. I love it, I wish I had of saved and got a DSLR earlier. The little Fuji s5600 was a good
camera but it just cant compare to the likes of a DSLR.

Ross, when are you going to NZ? I'm having a senior's moment... I'm sure you've said, but I forget.  Embarrassed

Ozzie, fantastic stuff... love the DoF and even the Bundy Bear, but you can have the rum... although apparently it's great for making a bonfire. Wink

Well we have all heard of "AA".
Perhaps there is a 'Betty Ford Clinic' style market for "PA" Photoholics anonymous. Though, it would be rare for a photographer to want to be anonymous!

It is just so much like Christmas, when you get to open the box. Enjoy!

Are you doing the South Island and then the North? If so, you might be in or around Auckland when we arrive, depending when you're coming back.

We fly out of Adelaide on the 2nd. I'll have the lappy to access some wi-fi, so hopefully can keep in touch at various points throughout the trip. Smiley

Sorry Ozzi, I've hijacked your thread. Couldn't help myself as I'm busting at the seams with excitement.  Embarrassed

Saving the north island for next year as we really want to take our time and have a holiday! Have to take the laptop for work (just finalising a Management buyout, timing not ideal, but holiday definately required!) although not sure that the signal will be that great!
