Can you help?  We should know as it’s in our garden, but we don’t!  I'll put some more pictures on this site and my blog later.

Time is like a freeway of infinite lanes, all leading from the past to the future. A driver in lane A may crash, while a driver in lane B survives, it follows that by changing lanes one may be able to predict the future.

That's a beautifully colored bromelliad.  I went and heaved down What Flower Is That from the bookshelf but Bromelliads are not in it!

A Google image search turned up a similar one on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/lightcliff/3625715671/  and the http://www.bromeliad.org.au/

How do you like the comment by a friend on Facebook: "Looks like a bottle brush exposed to extreme cold weather, hence the blue tips;-)"

Odille, thanks for the link.  I didn't realise how many variants of bromeliads there are.  The genus list is incredible.  And we definitely have some of them in the garden.

I became interested in them when we had a really beautiful and unusual one in the garden in Canberra.  They are good photo subjects too.
