Ok we have a brand new, hardly used gallery with very low mileage, driven only by an Admin Dude with very little time....! In lieu of a monthly challenge, how about a 30 day challenge - keeping it simple:- 1. Each person starts an individual thread under this heading and adds each day (? easy for us flickr users but does this create problems for others??) 2. 1 Photo per day for 30 days 3. Photo must be taken "on the day" - honesty systems applies. 4. Subject can only be used once - ie not 30 self portraits (but see wildcards) 5. Doesn't start until Bob returns from Hols - date to be confirmed but suggest 1 October (and maybe 31 days???) 6. WILDCARDS - ok we are all going to have blanks, so suggest 6 wildcards - photo's not taken on the day, repeated subject, 1 from the archives (BUT DEFINATELY NOT ONE POSTED ON LAF BEFORE) etc - again honesty system applies (and must be nominated by the poster) PRIZE - there isn't one, but the satisfaction of dusting off cameras, posting on a regular basis and generating activity on LAF!!!!! Anyone else up for it?

The more the merrier, but even with only 5, if everyone comments we should be able to generate a bit of fun and activity!

Getting geared up for 1 October to start. Hopefully we might get a few nice storms through for dramatic action.

Only two more sleeps... wondering what we have started - camping with grandkids this weekend, function next weekend and possible move the week after...! No time like the present!!!! Revsiting the guidelines - 1. Post one for each day - ours may be posting a couple of days at a time depending on internet availability espec camping this weekend! 2. Photo taken "hopefully" on the day (or previous day...) latitude granted, honesty system applies 3. Subject used once... poster to nominate subject/style in the post! 4. 6 Wildcards for the blanks... use them wisely!!!! At the end of the day - fun required, posting and commenting to happen... So raise your glasses (red or otherwise) rev your engines etc.....!

yes agree more activity BUT by the same hard core members, this is still a good idea because it makes all of us think about what we are taking but we need to try to involve others new and old so WHAT CAN WE ALL do to encourage others to get involved. Without looking back on other comments i think it was Tim that suggested having a critique gallery (sorry if wrong ) good shout this way advice can be given to those that need it ( me include ) as from advice from you guys i think that i have improved, so hopfully others will benefit

yes agree more activity BUT by the same hard core members, this is still a good idea because it makes all of us think about what we are taking The idea of the challenge for us was exactly that Bob - getting us thinking a bit more creatively/refreshing tired eyes. The fact that it generates activity here is a bonus. And the current activity may be from the same "hardcore" members, but it is still better than a lack of activity but we need to try to involve others new and old so WHAT CAN WE ALL do to encourage others to get involved. Without looking back on other comments i think it was Tim that suggested having a critique gallery (sorry if wrong ) good shout this way advice can be given to those that need it ( me include ) as from advice from you guys i think that i have improved, so hopfully others will benefit
How to attract new members/reconnect with old members? - have looked at a few of the other free sites over the last week or two - most seem to have the same problem - activity/members ebbing and flowing (on a paid site that we used to be on, a paid up member even posted their resignation over lack of comments on images), some having days/weeks between posts, so maybe there are too many "forum sites" for the number of enthusiastic photographers (and that is not intended as a criticism of others - life has a habit of getting in the way of enthusiasm!) Personally, I don't know that there is a lot that can be done that hasn't already been tried - "Gum Tree" style ads, links on other forum pages/profiles - flickr/redbubble/google knols etc. And yes a simplified front page may help, but at the end of the day, I don't think any of these things are make or break. SO the only suggestion I can offer, is just keep going with posting and commenting and hopefully, the activity will generate more interest and enthusiasm and therefore more activity! And of course, having a bit of fun in the process - now where is that Admin Dude, haven't whipped him for ages!!!!

Well Ross i think you may have to go a long way to beet my last comment to admin as i welcomed him to our forum as a newbie and invited him to start posting. But yes i know what you mean i miss the banter, so lets hope that this helps bring some of it back. Just thought of this what if someone who has not logged in for sometime sees this 30 day challenge and wants to join in can they start to post at any point but with a reduced number of days otherwise we may be inadvertently excluding those very members that we are trying to encourage LIKE ADMIN DUDE.

I agree with this, sporadic posters should join in at any time. Come on all you lurkers - join in and have some FUN!
April Love - you've been commenting today - how about some pics. We're nice, don't be afraid.
And I've posted a Journal entry re this on my RedBubble page, might generate a few more faces.

As a suggestion - if we all use the format Day??? Name the 30 day challend gallery could be sorted alphabetically so all days appear together (and yes - would have been better had I thought of this before starting but ...)!
