While having a conversation about the moon last night, it was mentioned that the view might be different from down under. Being south of the equator and all. Here in California, we see the right half of the moon at the moment. Could the view be different?
Any truth in this?

Well, I know it is the other way up. The phase is the same though, first quarter is first quarter and full is ful wherever you ae.

We don't have a 'man in the moon', it looks more like a hare (or rabbit).

I'll find a set from the last lunar elipse and post at the weeknd.

We definately have the man in the moon if you live in a place that is clear enough to see the sky. Here in California, the smog, fog, pollution, bright lights, and other mess limits the night sky quite a bit.
On my last trip, I was in Nebraska and the sky is so big and clear it looks other worldly.

From http://www.moonphases.info/moon_phases.html

Succinct pictorial over view and the following quoted information which answers the question...

"In the northern hemisphere, if the right side of the Moon is dark, the light part is shrinking: the Moon is waning (moving towards a new Moon). If the left side is dark, the Moon is waxing (moving towards a full Moon). The acronym mnemonic "DOC" represents this ("D" is the waxing Moon; "O" the full moon; and "C" the waning moon). In the Southern hemisphere, this is reversed, and the mnemonic is "COD"."

I should have been able to work that out, being a pretty keen amatuer astronomer, but brain was obviously not in gear.  Thank you Mr Admin Dude!
