Seattle Snow

http://www.lightartforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=430

It doesn't snow often in Seattle. And it rarely snows more than about 5 centimeters. One night in February, 2000, it snowed a lot more than 5 centimeters.

Time is like a freeway of infinite lanes, all leading from the past to the future. A driver in lane A may crash, while a driver in lane B survives, it follows that by changing lanes one may be able to predict the future.

Nope. It was shot on Delta 100. Hasselblad 501CM, 80mm Zeiss lens, A-12 back, Tiltall tripod...don't remember the manufacturer of the cable release  Wink. Classic Weston analog light meter (my dad bought it in the 60's). exposure around 5 or 10 minutes @ f/22.

A Seattle native?  Cool Home of my very favourite coffee. Grin

Beautiful photo. I would have loved to have been there at the time.  Smiley

Like Tim, we don't get snow here, although some of the higher peaks of the Mount Lofty/Flinders Ranges South Australia) do get a couple of centimetres each year.

A Seattle native indeed. And, in fact, a former manager for the Green Mermaid (though not in Seattle). I'm in Athens now, which could not be more different (except in the love for coffee).

Snows all winter in the mountains near Seattle, but only once or twice a year at sea level. We actually had a serious snowfall in Athens this year - 5 centimeters that completely shut the city down for 2 days.

I love this shot and was pretty sure I posted a comment that i must not have saved at the time.
Excellent exposure and you have really captured the subtle graduations of grey detail between the pure white of the light source and the darkest shadow side of the tree trunk.

Thanks, Mark. Someday I hope to take this negative into a darkroom and make magic with it. A la Adams, I'd probably bring the snow on the tree out a little more, make the patch of snow in the yard just a little lighter and increase the overall contrast just a bit.

Brian, my first sight of Washington under snow (pictorally) has been of Orcas Island frozen over. My dear friend Chris lives there... a wonderful portrait photographer of children. I have a great ambition to visit in the not-to-distant future, although his son will probably get here first. He and my youngest daughter are the very best of friends. Young Mario lives with his mother and siblings in Seattle, so by way of my daughter, I'm learning a lot about the place. Smiley
