Apologies Ross and Odille,

I reset max image limites to 25Mb last night, but did not increase folder sizes accordingly.
First time I've had to make that change.
When you get a chance, please seeif can upload now and let me know here or by PM.

Still learning the finer points of the system.

This is what my message says when I try and post a photo !

Quota Limit      24.41kb
Quota Space Used     136.99kb
Quota Space Left     -112.58kb

I have negative space left !!!!!
Perhaps you slipped and put me as 25kb instead of 25mb ?? !!

Grrrrr!

The setting uses bytes. Kb. I did not add enough zeros and reduced you all to 24. 5 Kb max. So generous of me!
It is now increased from 9.5 Mb each to 25Mb each. Can increase again if needed.

I need to award myself a pickle!

The next thing will be the reappearance of the 'pixel fairy', some reported already and fixed.

Whenever I make a change to images settings, new posts to the gallery save to the boards as thumdnail size.
If you get htis happening the easy fix is to "modify" the post and view the image path. The last bit will begin with:
/Thumbs_ and some numbers.
Just remove the "thumbs_" and save and problem fixed.
It is not a consistant problem, but i'm sure I'll ge to the bottom of it on next available upgrade.

Sorry, not quite a perfect world here..yet.

I know all too well how hard it is to run and operate a forum, and you are doing a really good job with the growing pains. Don't worry, it gets worse as more and more members sign up  Grin

Ummmmm, Thanks...I  think!!!!

Have you been there?
I also made the unenviable mistake of leaving a half completed forum, unattended for a few weeks, only to return to find about 350 members ALL of whom where marketing their p**n sites - Sheeeesh.
Quick learning curve.
This software, by and large is pretty good. The gallery plug-in automatically creating posts, is something I hadn't seen, but we have had a few problems with the posting of thumbnails. I almost went with vbulletin which some of the more established forums use, but it too has its issues and has an unnecessarily complex licensing set up.

Never-the less, I am enjoying it so far. I am really pleased with our small but growing band of ecclectic contributors - a very nice bunch across the board. We just need some of the 'lurkers' (in the nicest possible way) to come out of the virtual darkroom and particpate.
Unfortunately, like most, I have a real world and day to day responsibilities, so it is difficult sometimes to participate as much as I'd like.

Thank you for your very significant particpation so far too!

Mark, I moderate a non-photography forum based on Vbulletin...It's very stable but, like all things manmade, it needs vigilance to keep from becoming man-destroyed...This system seems to work really well and you are improving it as you learn...We thank you...Ben

Mark,

I built then eventually sold a V Bulletin forum. The license is a pain in the butt and the updates can be even worse. The time involved in building a good forum is not for the weak of heart. I now limit myself to moderating a couple non bulletin sites. That is much easier. I do like the little things that this forum does. The gallery posting is a nice touch.
Keep up the good work.

I love the gllery and linked post feature, I think it is great.  I wish this one showed people's location in the box to the left of our posts (if they've put it in their profile) but I guess you can't have everything.

You're doing a gret job Mark and it really is appreciated.

Hi Odille,

There is one available which places age and location nex to the post, but was created for an earlier version and requires a manual hack to work with SMF 1.1.5 (this version)
There is also a version 2 in late beta, so I'd prefer not to do manual hacks, too hard to keep track of as new versions arrive.
I promise to add this when it the stable upgrade is released and the creator compiles a mod package.
Same goes for a member Google map. Can be done but requires manual mods. Most SMF developers would now be working on mods for the stable v2 which makes a lot of core changes to the product.

I am also considering wrapping the forum in a Jooma environment which provides significant new funtionality there is a good login bridge and I have done a few Joomla websites. (See below if interested):
(mine)
www.ozlifestylephotography.comwww.governmentcars.com.au
(for others)
www.computerfairs.com.au | www.charliesangelstattoos.com
I also have another new SMF forum up in basic guise for motoring enthusiasts at www.motormouthforums.com unfinished and no time to do it at the moment - I also devloped and maintain www.afma.net.au and www.carnet.com.au
I dream wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww's

Had to put this here, I cannot start new topics or do full replies, I just get the top bit and a few smilies then a whole lot of garbage and no text entry box.

This morning when I tried to log on at 0538 I got an 'Account suspended' message and since I did get in (at work) it's as above.

Oh dear Admin dude, what's happened?
