The picture in my entry to the monthly competion - Reflections - is cropped on the right in the post.  If I click on the picture I can see the full, un-cropped picture.  What did I do wrong?

It is not cropped, just too wide for the available space.  I usually make mine 800 on longest side then they fit.

This makes sense.  I always set the longest side to 1024.  Thanks, Odille.

I usually go to 1024 as well ... I just find that most of my photos end up with a slider bar ... I might start cropping to 800 so it all fits on the one screen !

800 on the long side at 200ppi is what I resize to. Fits in and still gives good IQ and the file sizes can be kept reasonable small.

In terms of a tidy and consistent forum, I can either set max width size to 800 or auto resize to 800.
I had set the max width to 1024 but it does create a need for a slider.
Thoughts on this?

I think the auto resize to 800 would be good - that way if someone inadvertently forgets the forum will do it.

My vote is max size set at 1024 - usually try to use about 800, but the extra is handy for panos and the sliders aren't really a problem!!!  Cheesy
