Nikon has finally made more info about the http://nikon.com/about/news/2008/0701_d700_01.htm

This seems like a serious mix between the D3 and D300. I will await more news before deciding to upgrade, but this one, at least for now gets my vote over the 300

The big decision with this camera is wich way you are headed with your lens collection.
The FX format cannot use the digital series lenses designed for the DX sensor size.

I have Fuji Sr5 pro which is basically a D200. I bought an f2.8 70-200 for more than the cost of the camera, big decisions.
My brother in law just acquired a new D3 and loves it. But a serious investment when you add in a few fast lenses!

That's the trouble with all the camera systems.  I beleive OPentax is the only DSLR that you can use earler Pentax lenses on.  it adds considerably to the expense.

Most Pentax lenses will work on the new models, but on some of them not all the function fully work.
Depends how old they are.

I agree that  FX format cannot use the digital series lenses designed for the DX sensor size.
