but ultimately depressing.

And they gave the Olympic Games to this country - the pinnacle of an ideal was awarded to a country that has none.

Thank God for brave photojournalists, I hope the pictures go all over the world.

I despair for our planet.  What hope is there?

Catastrophic account. I'm a bit speechless to be honest.

Some awesome photos. This brings the statement made in a movie I have watched to mind ... It goes along the lines of "Humans are like a virus, they move to an area and multiply, once all the resources are used up they just move to another area"

Time is like a freeway of infinite lanes, all leading from the past to the future. A driver in lane A may crash, while a driver in lane B survives, it follows that by changing lanes one may be able to predict the future.

Very true Tim.  I was a bit speechless too, Carmyllie, pretty ghastly lot, aren't they?  Makes my personal recycling efforts look very puny in the overall scheme of things.  You just wonder why we bother at all. (Don't worry, I'll keep up my efforts, but . . . )

It is unbelievable how some countries treat the environment. Something really needs to be done about this and it needs to be done now. It would take decades to fix this, thats if its not to late already.

Well, it is tragic, but I bet the scene is repeated in many 3rd world locations around the world.
We had better wake up, it is not only what goes on in our immediate vicinity that will kill this planet, or our human race.

Hey

The western consumers and corporations naturally always want cheaper and cheaper. Why is there so much pollution? Because the First World developed the need and greed to cut cost to everything means a lot of things get made in China, but we all know that. I know it's unavoidable in a lot of instances but personally I do my best to look at where the products are made before I buy then ditch it if it's Chinese (sorry to any Chinese folks). But of course in many instances the purchase is impossible to avoid. But I try. And try. . . . . .

I try to avoid it too.  I'm a label reader anyway due to lots of food allergies, so I make every attempt to buy locally made, or failing that, the closer the better, with environmental concerns considered too (eg, no rainforest items from Asia).  But as you say, sometimes it is just impossible.
