Now theres something, a mother of a teenager with a smile on her face  Grin. A nice natural image. A little overexposed in places on her right which could have been easily avoided by reflecting some light back on her left. The focus also seems a little soft.

Hi Amber,
While I can see Derek's point, it is tough to mix a 'captured moment' with perfect exposure. Particularlry when there is such a broad range of light values to expose for.
I like the mood of the shot which is very natural and for me, the defined light source works well in creating a contrast.
I'd prefer a little blow-out in preference to flash or "missing the moment" to set up any day.
One day, a long time from now, you and your own kids will cherish images like this.
