If money was no object what camera gear would you buy ? Me ... I would buy the 400mm f2.8 L IS I wouldnt mind some shorter L glass such as the 24 - 105 f4 L Maybe another camera body ... nothing flash, 5D mk II or something Probably some studio lighting / flashes etc. Maybe I would put in a special order for the 1200mm canon lens which is $240 000 custom made and only 8 in the world !

Sounds a lot like my shopping list for when I win Lotto.
Canon EOS 5D Mk2 24-70 F2.8L 70-200 F2.8L and maybe get the 100-400 F4-5.6
and then there's the Linhof Technorama 617 that I would like.....

Yea a digital hasselblad with a phase 1 back or something would go ok (at $45 000 a pop, no lens) Although I must admit I saw someone using one of these and the photos I produced with the 30D were better IMHO ... Guess my point is its not the gear but the driver of the gear !

I would have to convert from Pentax. The 5D mkII would be the go. Maybe even the 1Ds mkIII. A bag, no, a crate full of L series lenses and some lighting gear. The new Blad would be ok, 60.5 mp for a cost of around AU$63,000.(thats for the digital back only) I guess I will have to keep putting the lotto tickets on seen I didn't win any of that $80 million powerball draw. The new Nikons are pretty good to.

I picked up my 1DsIII this morning...I traded away one lens which only leaves 29...I should probably learn how to use some of this stuff... ...Ben

Hi Ben, been a long drought - where have you been? Just busy or engaged in some project?
I am now awaiting my Canon 10-20 and . . .drumroll . . . 1D MkIIN! After that 'll be having a review and selling some stuff.

Just got busy doing other things and forgot to drop in...I assumed ownership of a discussion board (not photography related) and been busy ironing out a few wrinkles there...i still pick up odds and ends when the price is right (and it was really right with the 1DsIII)... ...Ben

Hi Mr Ben, Good to "see" you again. I too have been very thin on the ground, with other commitments and a short family break.
Always good to have you around when you can make it.

Just reading through some old posts and stumbled on this one about the Canon 1200.... there are 3 of these in Australia. 2 with Law Enforcement Agencies and one with a private professional bird photographer in Canberra. During the winter olympics in Vancouver i saw 4 different ones in use accredited media... And i know of 3 others with a USA Pap agency. Also to purchase one of these required a Deposit of $150,000 (USD) and total cost from Canon US with 315,000 delivered. Canon do not make this lens any more and took it of its current list in Oct 2009

10 or so then ! Not too much call for them at the cost when a 2x on a 400 f2.8 or 500 f4 gives you almost as much reach a lot cheaper and lighter ! I knew there were 3 in Aus but didn't know numbers outside aus, the guy from the canon factory / office thingy here in Brissy was telling me about them and he thought there were only about 8 of them worldwide. Would be cool to have one tho !
