My canon has one of those new fangled ultrasonic vibration dust reduction thingies. Problem is that it should (and has been for the last 10months) be silent. This morning when I turned my camera off (then on again) it made a quiet, but obviously loud enough to hear, noise. The noise sounded like a sort of screaching noise, anyone else heard noises from their ultrasonic dust removal thingies ?
Am going to canon at Cannon Hill tomorrow to have a chat with them about it cause I dont think it should be making that noise !

Obviously noone else has had the problem Smiley

I took it into Canon today and it is a problem they have encountered with it. Apparently it is not serious but the camera has to go down to Sydney for the "pro's" (as said by the guy who served me) to get into. From what he told me they have to get right into the camera and adjust the ultrasonic filter and while they are in there they will perform a service and clean so it should come back just like new Smiley ... and all under warranty !

When a $5000 piece of equipment makes screeching noises it isnt supposed to you tend to act on it pretty quickly ... trust me Smiley

Well after a Sunday out shooting some Soccer with Darren (Kiwi) I have discovered that Canon really did "fix" my camera. The Auto Focus recalibration they did threw the AF out. Now I believe it is forward focusing so a lot of shots have soft faces and sharp legs / ball / patch of grass in front of the players.
Very disappointed naturally. Am taking in some sample photos so the canon guy can see exactly whats going on and either fix it there or send it to Sydney again !

Can this be fixed in the settings. In my K20D I can change the focus settings if it is front or back focusing.
You can set it for all lenses or you can set it differently for different lenses and the settings are stored in the memory for each lens so whatever lens is put on focuses properly.

Yes yes Derek I know its me Tongue

Yes Ozzi I can set the camera to fix the forward / backward focus, but in a 1D mark III i would expect it to be spot on and only need to use that functionality in special situations. I guess the thing is that it was 100% fine before I sent it to Canon, when it came back after "recalibration" it is now not 100%.

Well of it goes to Sydney again ... it is a problem with the body not the lens ... they dont have to take it apart so it shouldnt be too much trouble.

You would think they would have all the gear there to test it properly so there should be no excuses as to
why they have messed it up. Hopefully this time it will be as good as new.
