A little dose of good fortune has come my way with a share from Mum's house sale and I have bought myself a 24" iMac off eBay (and it is someone local here in Tweed Heads). 4Gb Ram and 320Gb HD for $2,012.00! List price for that was almost $2800 and it is still under warranty. After seeing my BIL's in Tassie and how superb the pics look I was determined to get one, I thought I'd have to settle for a 20" but this one was a great buy. I will get it Monday or Tuesday (have paid him a deposit and am waiting for the cheque to clear).
A 100-400L lens is also on my shopping list. So once I acheive that you'll see lots more photos!
Whoopee!

One of my friends has the iMac and they just look fantastic, if I had the $$$ when I was getting my new computer I would have seriously considered it. My Dad has the Macbook ... and it is awesome too ... you are lucky to get such a good deal on the 24inch ! When you look at the 100 - 400L just watch the long end at f5.6 ... when I test drove one of those puppies it was a bit soft, but I was using the 30D and it was a super bright morning and I was shooting one of my friends surfing on the beach from the sand dunes ... so overall it was probably me not the lens !

Apparently you salways have to be careful at the long end - I guess the solution is zoom to the full length then pull it back a smidge. To say I am excited would be a gross understatement!

MY new monopod is up to it, I think (the Manfrotto 680 and I have the 322 trigger grip top). I have also just bought the 70-200 f4 L lens for $890.00.
Is that the same as yours or do you have the 2.8?
It was an end today on ebay (new lens) but the guy said it was OK for me to do the Buy-it-now thing and I could pay on Tuesday when the cheque is cleared.
The 100-400 I am looking at doesn't finish until tomorrow but that seller has said he's Ok with payment on Tuesday too. Some nice folks on ebay if you just ask nicely and are up front with them.

You think the 680 is upto it ?? I have the 680B (is it the same ??) and thats what I use with the 600mm so it should be OK with the 100 - 400 I have the f2.8 version of the 70 - 200 ... but by all reports the f4 is just as good if not better beacuse it is so much lighter !! Plus ... 2 L series lenses ... you wont know yourself !! I leave my 70-200 on all the time now cause its such a fantastic lens. Nice work with the Ebay buying too !

Yes, Tim, it is the 680B. The 70-200 has arrived and I have drooled over it, but I am home with the flu, spent most of yesterday in bed. So I probably won't get out to use it until the weekend. The 100-400 about 23 July for delivery, so I'll drive up to Brisbane and collect it, and I can do some test shots on the way home.

Even through the lens the scenes seem sharper, Tim. I took the surf, plus some planes landing in the suburbs (or they look like it) then went down to Vintage Lakes and shot some birds. Still downloading . .. . .

I have now gone totally nuts and lashed out and gotten myself the 24-105L and a Sigma 10-20! So I will soon have for sale a Sigma 24-70 f2.8, and the Cosina 19-35 f3.5. They are both nice lenses and the Cosina was a real surprise packet, very sharp and has totally changed my style of shots, with a lot more wide landscape stuff.

LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY. Hope you enjoy your new lenses. You may have to do a bit of gym work so you can carry them around with you though. Have fun.

Am I a haapy camper? You bet your ass! here are 3 from this morning. The first one is full frame, straight from the camera, I just made it into jpeg. No adjustment, no sharpening, no nuthin'! 100-400 at 380 zoom, f4, spot metering. The next 2 have been adjusted a bit, they were a bit dark.

I can see why your happy. Great shots and so clear, superb. The guy on the yellow board seems to be either carrying a boomerang or fetching sticks for his owner. I love the way he is standing there appearing so casual...
