Odille, Trick questions, I don't know. 1. Go to gallery 2. See "My Gallery" link in top right hand corner. Click same 3. Click 'settings' - name gallery etc 4. Add categories (or not) 5. Upload images
You can also just upload images to the various categories then move them to a gallery or other category.
Also (which I see you are already doing) once an image is posted to the gallery a BBC link is generated below the image. this can be pasted into any post (prefereable to attaching)

I guess I'm just not smart enough to use this forum. I went to gallery, named a gallery for myself then tried to upload a photo. I added a name, a description then clicked add picture. It sits there and does nothing. Three times I tried this and searched the page for something else to click. The closest and only button is add a picture and that does nothing except erase the information I put in.

Hi David,
Welcome. Were you logged in when you tried to set up a gallery? Has anyone else had this problem? It should be as stright forward as outlined above. I'll investigate.

I didn't seem to have any problem making the gallery. It is uploading the picture that has me stumped. Apparently it works, others have done it.

Hi David,
I just now logged in using my wife Andrea's account (ID annia) and repeated the process of: 1. Logged in 2. Clicked Gallery tab 3. Clicked 'my gallery' link at top right 4. Opened with user name 'Annia' at top 5. Down the page a bit, selected 'Add category' 6. I typed in a title and description, navigated to the image on our shared storage external hard drive 7. Selected 'upload' 8. The page refreshed after moment saying 'image accepted' and showing a thumbnail and file size.
From what you are saying you get to 7. and then when you try to upload nothing happens. If you are uploading a mega file (like 300dpi and 3200px ) or something, that would fail via a timeout If you are uploading an unsupported file like PSD, that would fail (jpg, gif, png all ok) If you are not logged in your would have made it past item 2
I am using vista 64bit, I think Odille (Analog6) might be using a Mac and I am sure others would be using XP. I would like to get to the bottom of this, if you care to persevere. It has to be something simple.

Mark, if I upload pics to my member gallery should they show in the recent pics set on the Gallery front page? I uploaded some yesterday and they are not showing. Is it only ones in the category galleries that show?

Thanks
It worked fine today. At #7 it is add picture, not upload. Maybe I didn't make a category yesterday. I don't remember.

Odille, I believe they should show. In trying to isolate David's problem yesterday, I logged on using my wife, Andrea's account (Annia) set up a gallery with a category 'portraits' (which is not a standard category) and that image shows in the latest postings. I suspect it might be due to the session time settings. I posted a message a couple of nights back, was called away in the middle of it and resumed later and the message did not appear. I will significantly increase the session timeout length. I am noticing that a more images are being posted directly into the images by genre board instead of the gallery. Perhaps I have nade it too complex. They gallery seemed like a good idea as comments and ratings can be set, but maybe it should just be left to post to a board and make each board "sticky"? I am open to suggestions, there is no "right" way, but here are often more views and comments to the images attached to the board message.

Hi all,
Just some thoughts
Second part of the problem is that David and Odille's galleries are password protected (don't know if that was their intent) and therefore unaccessible.
Do we really need Galleries? We created ours as this was the norm on another site, however, may not be necessary here (and in fact may just complicate things here?) given that you have the facility to categorise and that they are posted to the board by Genre.
While on the subject of complication - posting to the board then creates a separate area to both comment and view, so am I right in thinking that the total number of views of an individual photo is the sum of both the individual views and the board post views??
Cheers
PS Great to see you have a spell check button for us lazy typists!!!

Thanks for telling me. I definitely did NOT put a password on it, as I remember thinking why would I want to lock it.
Mark, how do I take the password off? Had a quick look and it didn't jump out at me.

Re Passwords - assumed (such a dangerous word) that others had password protected galleries because we could see ours! Can someone please check ours as it may well be that the only reason we could see it was that we were signed in!!
Cheers

Then it all points to the password issue as both ours and Annia's Galleries are included in the recent pics!! Cheers

OMG, Passwords. Yes they can be set for private boards. I'll take look. The gallery made sense in that you can browse, but Ross is right, you end up with 2 places to leave comments, in the gallery and on the boards Perhaps I should just leave the personal galleries up and remove the rest. There seems to be more activity in the board section. personally, I like being able to browse the gallery - but I am happy to go with the concensus.

Mark
Was referring to creating personal galleries - the site galleries are great for us when time deprived and want a quick check of new posts, although maybe enable comments in the forum only???!
Cheers

I like the site galleries with a comment in the threads on the board - I've not seen it done this way before and I think it's great.
