This is my first message of many in the new Light Art photography forum.
It is a weird feeling, a bit like speaking in empty hall - one that I hope will fill to form a vibrant and active community.
Why create another photography forum, you might ask? Partly because for the last 20 years or so since I bought my first 'serious camera' (a Canon EOS 630). I, like many others, have gained immense pleasure from the freedom of expression that I gained via photography and partly because, I'd like to raise awareness and promote discussion of and around the artistic freedom available via learning to 'see'.
You may not be able to paint, draw, sculpt, play a musical instrument - or write poetry, but you can combine all of these forms of expression, by capturing the play of light, texure, tone and balance on the world and life around us. We are surrounded by a stream of "decisive moments'.

Early in the piece, I headed off around the world with a back-pack and only a couple of camera bodies and a few lenses and spent a year wandering, working, meeting people and capturing images. This initial process has ensured that photography (and more lately the entire work flow of capture and creative digital enancement) will be with me as my chosen form of artistic expression for as long as I am able to lift and point a camera.
Today, my wife and I run a small portrait photography business on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. We are very fortunate to be able derive part of our income, by sharing our passion for image making with others.
If you happen to read this, welcome. I hope you'll take the time to register and help build a bustling community around the theme of 'Light Art'.
