A similar species of gull to what we call silver gulls. (still call them sea gulls actually). Sky rats!
If someone throws a potoato chip, that is the end of it. Hundreds descend from nowhere.

Yep, same here mate, pesky things.

I think this gull is possibly a lesser black backed, or maybe a herring gull, not quite sure.

Nothing like grabbing some fish and chips and going down the river (Murray, Mildura) and throwing a chip
or 2 out and watching them all fight over them. Pretty amusing stuff.

There is a good little (supposedly true) read called "Desperate Voyage" where this Australian guy who buys a boat in the USA after (I think WWll) when he is, as per the title 'desperate' to get back to his new bride, having lost his post on a commercila vessel.
He is almost immediately disabled on his first leg exiting the harbour in the USA.
The ensuing story has him fighting off sharks, hurricanes, fever and hunger..which he manages to survive by eating the odd bit of engine oil and raw seagull...'yummy!"
