Can I suggest, whuile we are in our 'infancy' at least, that people do try to leave feedback on others' work? I was doing this even before Mark delighted me by so kindly asking me to be a moderator.
I posted some images, and while there have been a few views, not one person has made a comment. I don't know about the rest of you but it makes me feel my photos are so dull everyone is just indifferent.
I do try to make a positive comment about each image, even if I don't like it, because positive comments reinforce our 'creativity' (bad word, but best I can come up with).
So please, do try to give some feedback - when there is none you feel as if you have fallen down a big dark hole. Even the more experienced photographers feel this, I always doubt my own work and vision, I've only ever entered about a dozen competitions in over 30 years at it because I never am satisfied.
I hummed and hahed over posting on this subject but decided it was no good sitting here at home griping about feeling like a mushroom! Fertilisation please!

I know so little about photography that I am often hesitant to comment because I know my ignorance shows through...But I know what you mean about hearing no critique at all, it makes one wonder at the value of his efforts...
At least I know what I think a "purdy pitcher" is, though...I don't look at every genre but I'll try to make some kind of offering when I do...Good topic...Ben

Hi Odille, Politely put, but on the button. Feedback is the stuff of creativity as it provides some notion as to whether others think we have stirred an emotion or an opinion of any kind or are on the right track. I have been away from the board for a couple of days with kids sport committments and trying to sort out the little outage fiasco. And truckman, as the audience you are as entitled to an opinion as anyone, there is no right or wrong, just apoint of view.

All
I guess we are all guilty of being too busy and rushing through! Not totally into the technicalities of what makes a good, great or lousy photo, but know what we (individually) like. Based on what we have seen on other sites, it is all too often a personal call!
Like everyone, we do enjoy and appreciate getting feedback, and will try to be more active in this regard, although I (the R half) at the end of the day tend not to look through all genres, but skim those that are of interest to me!!
Cheers

I know i'm only knew here, but I agree on the subject of making comments on peoples images. I also think there is nothing wrong with a bit of constructive criticism as that is what lets photographers know how to improve and learn. As long as it is put nicely and not in a degrading way. I don't mind in the least if someone give me tips on how to improve my photography as that is what I am trying to do. Just thought I would put my 2 bobs worth in. (I have to stop typing now, some of them big words are giving me a headache.)

If you are a member, Bloke, you are entitled to an opinion, regardless of whether you are new or not! And agree whole heartedly - here to learn so any feedback is appreciated! Cheers

Sometimes through making critiques we learn about our own photography. If you like a picture, why? If you dislike a picture, why? If you think you might like a picture if something were changed somehow, what change would you make?

I too am guilty of rushing through most posts. One of the reasons that I like this forum is that it is small (at least for now) and we have a golden opportunity of sharing on a more personal basis. The comments will make all of us better photographers.

I know I am only new here ... no more than a week i think ... but I can see Odille's point. The only thing here that I can say is that when people have been posting say a series of 4 or 5 pictures in different posts I comment on the one I like best after I have looked at them.

Time is like a freeway of infinite lanes, all leading from the past to the future. A driver in lane A may crash, while a driver in lane B survives, it follows that by changing lanes one may be able to predict the future.

Like I was told Tim, It doesn't matter if your new, just have your say anyway. The more comments and help we give each other the better we all become.

I'll certainly try and participate more. As a newbie here I'm still feeling my way around the traps, but I love the work I've seen so far and the people associated with it.
