If the tooth fairy left a wad of cash under your pillow tonight, what would be your ideal DSLR package and why?

Oh, don't gte me started.

It would be the latest Hasselblad digital with a nice rnage of lenses, and a Canon 1DsMkIII (or latest at the time) and ditto range of L lenses.

And of course, a top of the range Mac computer with lots of storage drives and a 24" top of the line monitor, and latest version of Adobe Creative Suite.

I do buy my lottery ticket each week - you never know, I might see a flying pig any day now!

Well I've got a Canon 40D and a selection of lenses...I'd have to add a 1DsIII and a grabbag of L lenses...

I'm already used to my old computer so I'll hang on to it...Ben

Hey Ben,

Welcome to Art Light and thanks for joining in. Wouldn't be hard to blow $20k with a the big gun a few "L" series lenses.
Nice way to go though. Stick around and join in, we're only a couple of weeks old. All suggestions and comments are welcome and we'd love to see a few shots up in the gallery. 'Speak' soon!

Now Odille, I said a 'wad', not a small truck load of cash. If you are talking an H3 and 39mp digital back and a few lenses and the EOS, we are suggesting the price of a mid range BMW. You are a greedy girl! Smiley

Mind you with the EOS 22mp, if you went with two rows of four vertical images, stitched, you'd have a 176mp image! that would do the trick too!

Nikon D3 with Nikon AF 80-400mm VR ED, Tamron AF 28-300mm Ff/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC Lens and some other lens. Lowepro Commercial AW Camera Bag and other stuff. With a good computer. Probably a new Mac and then another laptop. Epson Stylus R2400 A3 Photo Printer.

If i ever win lotto one day that will be my kit or the new Nikon out.

I'm just going for the next best thing atm. A D300 with cheaper lens of course.haha

The D300 will be a good camera.
I currently use a Fuji SR5 pro which is basically a D200 with a Fuji sensor and it does a great job of portraits with a good dynamic range.
You can save quite bit with the Tamron and Sigma lenses too, we use a Tamron Aspherical XR DiII 17-50 1:2.8 fror some portrait and general work. It is well rated, sharp and offers a significant saving on the Nikkor equivalent.

Yeah i have looked at D200s but thought i mywell just go for the D300. Yeah Sigma and Tamron will be the lens i use. They are cheaper and still deliver great quality. Except for the Nikon 18-200mm VR Lens that comes with the kit I'm getting.
I am aiming for one by next year.

1DsMkIII, a couple more L zooms and a bunch of L primes. Reckon that'd see me about right for quite a few years.  Grin

Practical: D3, 17-55mm and 50, 85 and 300mm primes (I really hate zoom lenses). SB800 with power pack.

Fantasyland: Wista 4x5 w/90, 150 & 210mm lenses, and an Omega Superchromega E 4x5 enlarger (with the attendant accessories and trays up to 20x24").

Or does that move me from wad to truckload?

I've gotten to where I pack my Canon 40d, 10-22 3.5-4.5 and my 70-300 4-5.6 and an extra battery...I ordered the Canon battery grip this weekend so that's where the extra battery will reside...Ben

After spending quite a bit of time this weekend at the camera shop, I think that I have settled on this kit.

D300

Nikon Super Wide Angle AF 12-24mm

Nikkor Telephoto AF Zoom 200-400mm

Nikkor Telephoto AF VR Zoom Nikkor 80-400mm

Add a couple of teleconverters and I am a happy guy  Grin

I thought about the H3 for my fantasyland, but I figured in real fantasyland, I would be using film and have access to kick-ass scanning to make my digital prints.

I saw an article in Studio Photography magazine about a fine-art food photographer who still uses film, and only film, and does no manipulations, wet or digital. Beautiful, beautiful shots of luscious tomatoes and aubergines (see, I can speak non-American English) and bread. Made me think about taking the Hasselblad to the beach this weekend.

I think I would go Nikon D3. All the best lenses and filters aswell.
A computer with a great big screan would be the go, and lots of grunt.
Maybe I will ask Santa.

Nikkor Telephoto AF Zoom 200-400mm

Now if only Canon would follow suit. I have a 70-200mm, next option (aside from the primes) is a 100-400mm. Huh? Would make all the sense in the world to do what Nikon has done.
