I thought I'd give my latest acquisition, the Canon 50D, a try out at a higher iso. These 2 shots were taken at 1600 iso, the lens was a Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS.

Although not brilliant, still usable I think.

Both pics have had minimal processing, mainly some slight High Pass filter sharpening after re-sizing for the web.

Hi Mike,
The first one unfortunately has a bit glass reflection accross it. The second is clearer, but both as you say are well enough exposed given the low overall light levels. The capaility of DSL's in low light just keeps getting better and better!

Doesn't seem that bad to me either. High iso works better without too many lights around. Try some night pics with the lights farther away.

They don't seem to bad. The test would be in the printing. Is 1600 the highest it goes or is there more.
My K20D goes to 3200 normally and then can go to 6400 in the custom menu.
3200 is a bit blotchy and 6400 is crap but both usable in a small print if really needed but thats about it.

The 50d also goes up to 3200, and up to 12800 (H2) in the custom menu. I'm going to have to play around with the camera some more to find it's optimum settings.

I may have to do that myself. Maybe we could have some sort of thread started to test and compare different cameras
in different price ranges and classes. It would be a good learning tool for people to find out about iso and lighting.
How about it Mr Admin Dude. Would it be worth doing ya think.
