Just wondering what it is here...Elsewhere, posts from new members are blocked until confirmed by an administrator...At that level, obvious spammers have their names and IP's permanently blocked...

Another board gave up trying to stop them and gave them their own forum on the main portal...All other forums for real people are sub-linked...Ben

That is not a bad idea... Does the logged button report threads to the admin and moderators?

The spammersfrom the last couple of days (removed) have similar IP's and I have placed blocks on these - won't stop them tho'.

As I see more of the IP addresses, I will broaden the block.
You can report IP addresses from the bottom right of any post.
I can go to approval of new members, but this discourages people from joining in as they need to wait for a reply.
I am happy to provide a few of you with moderator rights, you can then smite at will (within reason).

I am not here as much as I should be with my wife away interstate caring for her mum (who is not going to get any better).
I am juggling work, being Mr Mum with three young daughters, the forum and a couple of websites  Tongue

In the news and announcements section (sticky) you'll see I have made few changes, which may help.

Excellent thanks ... I can also look at IP's and remove people who are spammers as well !

some of those spammers you've been talking about are not really a spammers. Maybe some of them were just mis understood by the admin or the moderators..  Wink

If you saw the 3 screen long list of drugs for sale you would class them as spammers.  I delete them.

They are not even human...Literally, the majority of them are just software running on a hard drive somewhere...I'm still deleting two or three a day on my own board...When they register, they are automatically placed in a usergroup with no privileges...If, after a quick investigation, they are spambots, they get deleted...If they are genuine humans, they get admitted as a registered member...

Knock wood, I haven't had one get through since I assumed ownership of my board... Cool...Ben

Isn't there a way that can stop the signup of the computers that send out spam stuff. On some places I have signed up to, you have to type in some random letters from a box that are hard to read, it is meant to stop "computers" from being able to sign up to web sites and spamming.

That's an idea, Ozzi.  Admin dude, can we institute something like that - or is it there already and I don't remember?  I will keep dedicatedly (is that word? - it is now) deleting their posts!

We have "Captcha" included in the sign up process (the letters and numbers are created as an image which includes lines and 'noise' to help prevent machine reading. No system is perfect tho' and certainly approving people one at a time will discourage new members who want to participate as a when they find us.
Trucky's idea has some merit, but also means a lot of reconfiguring to make all boards children to a main board.
To be honest, time wise, I am currently struggling as it is to spend the time I would like here.
I need to get this database issue between the gallery and forum sorted first.
