Just for abit of fun, I thought we could run a contest for the best series of images for the month of November (in addition to the normal Theme Challenge).
The task is to create a Photo Journalism or doco style series that tells a short story on any topic.
Let's say no more than 6 images.
It might be a member of your local community, a country fair, an old building, any event, an item of interest, such as global warming, pollution or whatever.
We will set a small poll for voting purposes.
The prize:
Each year following the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers annual awards, The Institute produces a low run, high quality gallery book featuring the work of the previous year's award winning photographers. Edition 31 features the work of the 2007 winners, taking almost a year and over three hundred and fifty pages to produce.
The book is useful as a record of the current direction and techniques used across a broad range of professional photography disciplines.
Anyone interested in photgraphy will be inspired by some of the featured work.
We will ship a copy of this book to the winner.

Step 1>
Pour a glass of your favourite wine (or a cup of tea or coffee)
Step 2>
Put some of your favourite music on in the back ground
Step 3>
Flick through some local newspapers and magazines, community websites
OR
Think about local markets, retirement villages, circus (we have the Moscow circus visiting currently), schools, fairs, ocean rockpools, over-zealous local developments, the local butcher who likes to piant in oils, the dog shelter, the next door neighbour that has been restoring a car/boat for the last umpteen years, the local refuge centre, problems facing the elderly, anything that a series of images can portray in a manner that might illicit an emotional response.
They can be colo(u)r, black and white, illustrative, portraiture, interpretation, impressionism, whateverism.
Sometimes just going for a walk or catching a train (with a camera) to nowhere in particular can raise the level of awareness.
You can also add a few words of prose or poetry if that helps.  Smiley

Am I mistaken, or is there only one entry for our December Photo Journalism series?

I can find only one series in the Photo Journalism galllery / board for November and that is "Hinterland", as series on the Mt Warning Caldera in SE Queensland by Ross.

In fairness to others who may have posted to other boards that I have missed, please let me know.
Currently it looks like the dynamic duo of Ross and Cher have taken both gongs!

Ross is the default winner (and even so, deservedly) of the Canon gallery edition, with his photo journalism series Hinterland.
You should see it in the post in teh next few days, congratulations.

If you haven't already, check it out..A great series.
